The Priory Angling club was founded in 1963 and the main lake’s life started as a ‘Ballast & Sand’ pit owned by Hall & Co.

Due to the lake being a pit, it was dug very deep and the redundant earth was simply put on the main roadside (which measured about 30 ft high). This made the access to lake(s) almost impossible to fish.  The Club was instantly faced with one of its first challenges - to get the mountain of earth removed and to create an access path.

Once the works were carried out, the Club membership began to take off at a rapid speed and the need for further fishing swims became priority.  With the high demand of membership, the Club managed to take over the lease of three other lakes that surrounded the main lake.

From the works, and extra lakes acquired by the Club, many decades of fun and good fishing were had by all.

In recent years, the Club has seen massive changes, and the work involved, has been immense.

To get to where we are today, it has been a long and painstaking journey, and at present, the Club is at its best.
